Restylane® Fillers Questions and Answers

Restylane is the pioneer of hyaluronic injectables, being the first one approved by the FDA for aesthetic purposes. Since its inception, Restylane has provided thousands of people with astounding cosmetic results to improve the shape of their lips, reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines and to improve their overall appearance.

How long do Restylane fillers last?

Restylane treatments generally last between six to 12 months after injection. However, the duration of the results will vary from patient to patient, just like with other injectable fillers or cosmetic enhancers. Factors that affect the duration include the patient’s lifestyle, metabolism, muscle volume and movement, the severity of the treated areas, and the unique characteristics of the skin.

The professional clinician performing the procedure can make a good estimate as to how long you can expect the effects of Restylane to last. Before the procedure, the professional will take a closer look at the area being treated and ask questions regarding your medical history, lifestyle, and other information.

The duration of the effects of Restylane varies from area to area. For example, Restylane injected in lips wears off quicker than that in another part of the face or skin, with the average effect of Restylane in lip treatments and enhancements being three to six months. In areas other than the lips, the effect is usually longer, averaging six to nine months, with results lasting up to 12 months in some patients.

Where can you inject Restylane?

The fillers take some time to reach their full effect, although some results are visible immediately. After the injections, the gel adds volume that improves the contouring of your face right away. This helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles while giving your skin more support that smoothens the texture.

  • Smile Lines: The area that extends from the nose to the corners of the mouth, also sometimes referred to as laugh lines.
  • Corners of the Mouth: The area next to the crease of the lips, also called the commissure.
  • Lips: Both upper and lower lips can be enhanced with the use of Restylane.
  • Marionette Lines: Long lines that extend from the corners of your mouth vertically down your chin.

Does Restylane work immediately?

The effect of Restylane fillers is immediate. Patients see the results of the fillers right after the procedure and full effects will be seen within a few weeks. Restylane does not have any downtime, however, it may take up to 4 weeks for the full result to take effect and be visible. This also slows down visible signs of aging.

When we age, the production of HA, elastin, and collagen that makes the skin look firmer and younger also slows down, thus the introduction of these components into the skin through dermal fillers and injectables is the easiest way to regain that youthful look. The introduction of hyaluronic acid through dermal filling also stimulates the production of elastin and collagen in the long run. Restylane with Lidocaine may last for up to 6 months for treatments on wrinkles and folds until the gel gradually disappears from the body. For cheek injections, Restylane may last between two to twelve months. Restylane with Lidocaine could provide immediate but non-permanent results however successive sessions can be done based on the consultation with a physician.
